Morgantown Utility Board crews are working to move Cobun Creek into a new channel — part of the Flegal Dam and Reservoir project.
“We’re currently about 6 percent complete with the Flegal Dam and Reservoir project,” MUB Spokesperson Chris Dale said in an email to The Dominion Post this week. “The primary work right now is relocation of Cobun Creek through a newly constructed channel. This is required for construction of the dam, which could begin as early as next week. The stream itself could be relocated as soon as this week, depending on the weather.”
Wet weather was a hold up, putting the construction of the dam and reservoir about 12 weeks behind schedule, according to a report given to Morgantown City Council by MUB General Manager Tim Ball.
Ball spoke to council about that and other MUB projects earlier this month.
The nearly $50 million project is projected to be complete in late 2020.
The new reservoir will hold 370 million gallons of water, a 30-day supply. It stretches about 4,500 feet southeastward in the valley between Grafton Road and Kingwood Pike — along Cobun Creek Road and following the lines of Cobun Creek and Mountain Run.
