West Virginia gymnastics team heading to Ann Arbor regional

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s gymnasts, making their 40th NCAA postseason bid, will compete at the Ann Arbor Regional on April 5-6 at the University of Michigan.

Joining the Mountaineers in Ann Arbor are No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Michigan, No. 10 Alabama, No. 14 Nebraska, No. 23 Penn State, Ohio State Illinois and Central Michigan.

The 36-team NCAA field was announced Monday.

The top two teams from each of the four regionals — plus the top all-around competitor who is not on an advancing team — will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Fort Worth.

The Mountaineers have advanced to the NCAA national championships three times — 1995, 1999 and 2000.
