WACO, Texas — After losing to Baylor on a walk-off hit Friday night, West Virginia’s Big 12 slate is off to a rocky start following a shutout 12-0 loss to the Bears on Saturday.
Baylor (15-6, 2-0) took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning following a Cole Haring home run and Nick Loftin RBI single off the Mountaineers pitcher Jackson Wolf, but it really unraveled for the WVU (0-2, 13-9) in the fourth.
Wolf faced three batters with two reaching before being replaced by Ryan Bergert. Baylor ended up scoring seven runs in the frame on a single by Chase Wehsener, sac fly by Richard Cunningham, double by Davis Wendzel, single by Shea Langeliers and another homer from Haring.
Wolf, who was charged with the loss, gave up four runs in 3 1/3 innings, while Bergert allowed five runs in 2 2/3.
The Bears scored their final three runs in the eighth inning off Brock Helverson.
West Virginia mustered just three hits in the game, two coming off Baylor starter Jimmy Winston, who pitched six innings to earn the win.
The Mountaineers will look to salvage a game in the series at 1 p.m. today.
