CHARLESTON — Ahead of their Class AA quarterfinal No. 7 Lewis County knew it faced long odds against No. 2 Fairmont Senior.
“We knew coming in we’d have to play a perfect game and you don’t get too many perfect games,” Minutemen coach Charles Simms said.
Fairmont Senior, which won the regular-season meeting by 58 points, put together another dominant performance to roll 92-35.
For the Polar Bears (25-1), Dasilas Jones scored 18 points with six assists. Jaelin Johnson scored 16. Jalen Bridges finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Zyon Dobbs added 14 points. None of them played more than 21 minutes.
“We did a great job of sharing the basketball, staying in the moment and continuing to execute when the game was basically over,” Fairmont Senior coach David Retton said.
The Polar Bears will take on No. 3 Bluefield today in a semifinal.
Fairmont Senior shot 61 percent overall, including 15-of-16 in the second quarter to lead 53-12.
Luke White had 14 points for Lewis County (11-16), which made its first trip to the state tournament since 1985.
