CHARLESTON — The woman whose anti-Muslim display was at the heart of last weekend’s controversy returned to the east end of the Capitol on Friday.
She and some colleagues displayed posters addressing free speech and refugees. Several supporters in red Make America Great Again hats surrounded her, and one was making a video defending her actions.
Her name is Brenda Arthur, and she said, “I came last week to make a statement about anti-Semitism. It’s raging in our Congress.”
Arthur said that Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who was featured on one of the controversial poster and has been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks, is part of the trend.
“I’m back here to make a statement about free speech,” she said.
She said she did not seek or receive clearance from the House to set up her Friday display. She came in through the public entrance, where security officers checked her posters and passed her through.
The House was in session, so there was no interaction with delegates when The Dominion Post spoke with her.
