MORGANTOWN — Donquale Gray, wanted for the attempted murder of a police officer, was the man shot and killed by the U.S. Marshals Service on March 6, according to a Morgantown Police Department press release.
Marshals were attempting to arrest Gray, who fled down a hill behind 1133 College Avenue with a handgun, the release said. During the chase, Gray fired his weapon and “at least one” U.S. Marshal returned fire.
Nearby homes were evacuated for safety reasons and Falling Run Road and College Avenue were both closed, the release said. Both roads were opened again just before 2 p.m. Falling Run Road runs parallel to College Avenue in parts and is behind the home Grey was found at.
The MPD, City of Morgantown and WVU Police alerted the public to the danger and warned them to avoid the area through social media posts, news releases and other methods, the release said.
