Alfred R. ‘Al’ Hlad, 77, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 7, 1941, in Cassville, son of the late Fred and Nellie Wallace Hlad.
Alfred attended West Virginia University and earned a master’s degree. After graduation, he was employed at Monongalia County Schools as a music teacher and band director at various schools throughout the county, but mostly at South Junior High School. Alfred was a generous and caring educator. He taught for over 30 years. He was greatly respected by his peers.
Alfred was a devoted family man to his siblings and nephews. He has given above and beyond to everyone. He had always put others before his own needs. He will be greatly missed by all.
Alfred is survived by his siblings, Fred Hlad, Jr., of Wheeling, Shirley Ann Hlad, of Cassville, Dorothy Ferrise, of Morgantown, and Mary Sue Hlad, of Cassville; great aunts, Rose Hlad and Ann Chico; cousin, Louis Hlad; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Murphy and Nellie Jean Miller.
Honoring Alfred’s wishes, all services are private.
