MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s 2022 football schedule is complete with the addition of FCS opponent Towson. The Mountaineers will host the Tigers on Sept. 17 at Milan Puskar Stadium.
WVU will play Towson a total of $500,000 for the game. MetroNews obtained the contract through a Freedom of Information Act request.
If either school breaks the contract before Sept. 21, 2021, it will owe the other party a sum of $300,000. Should the game be rescheduled after that date, the school that terminates the contract would owe the other $500,000.
Towson is the lone non-Power 5 school on WVU’s 2022 schedule, as well as the only home non-conference game. West Virginia will open the season at Pitt on Sept. 3 and also travels to Virginia Tech on Sept. 24. There is currently an open date on Sept. 10, though it could potentially be filled with a conference game.
Towson, which is located in Baltimore, has played West Virginia once in its history — a 54-0 blowout win for the Mountaineers in 2014. Towson is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association
With the addition of the Towson game, West Virginia’s football schedules are complete through 2023.
