Marian Elizabeth Nieman, 87, formerly of Star City, and had been residing in Pittsburgh, near her daughter, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at the Southwestern Assisted Care Home, in West Mifflin, Pa.
The adopted daughter of the late David and Sarah Guthrie Van Sickle, she was born July 8, 1931, in Cuzzart.
Marian spent her childhood years in Hazelton and was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She graduated from Bruceton High School in 1947, and attended Morgantown Business College. She was employed at Sterling Faucet, Montgomery Ward, and then West Virginia University from where she retired. She was a member of the Cumberland Moose Lodge 271 and the F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary 2373, in Fairmont. She was active in bowling leagues and volunteered at Mon Health Medical Center Gift Shop, Mon Point Nursing Home, and the Rosenbaum Family Home.
After she retired, she enjoyed traveling with Morgantown Seniors and friends, playing games on her computer, watching TV, reading, and spending winters in Florida and Arizona.
Marian is survived by a son and his spouse, Richard and Ida Nieman; a daughter and her spouse, Deborah and Charles Koch; six grandchildren, Amber and Adam Armstrong, Sara Nieman Paschke and her spouse, Chris, Cody Nieman, Shelby Nieman and companion, Miles Helmick and Skylar Nieman; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Collin Armstrong, Erich Raymond, and Benton Paschke; two half-brothers, Bob Lawson and his spouse, Annabelle, and Jackson Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral home, in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, from 3 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, until the 11 a.m. service with Pastor Chad Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Bruceton Mills.
