MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Travis Trickett’s return home is a fruitful one. Trickett, a WVU graduate who was hired Monday as the final coach on Neal Brown’s first West Virginia coaching staff, will earn $250,000 a year over the course of the next two years.
MetroNews and The Dominion Post obtained the contract through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Contracts were also obtained for senior football analysts Ryan Nehlen and Casey Vance. Nehlen and Vance, both holdovers from the Dana Holgorsen administration, each make $51,500 in contracts signed last September. Nehlen, an offensive analyst, and Vance, a defensive analyst, are both contracted through June 30 of this year.
Trickett’s official position, like most of Brown’s assistants, has not officially been announced, though it is expected to include tight ends in some manner. He earned a notable raise from his stint as Georgia State’s offensive coordinator. Trickett was paid $180,000 for his role calling plays for the Panthers offense.
Trickett’s contract includes the same incentives as his fellow full-time assistants:
$10,000 for Big 12 championship appearance
$10,000 for Big 12 championship victory
$15,000 for non-CFP higher-tier bowl appearance (Alamo, Russell, Texas)
$5,000 for non-CFP higher-tier bowl victory (Alamo, Russell, Texas)
$20,000 for New Year’s Six bowl appearance
$5,000 for New Year’s Six bowl victory
$25,000 for CFP semifinal appearance
$25,000 for CFP national championship appearance
$25,000 for CFP national championship victory.
Including analysts, the total pay for WVU’s coaching staff is $3.32 million. Brown had a budget of $3.5 million available to use on his coaching staff.
Dana Holgorsen’s full-time coaching staff made a total of $3.44 million last year plus the additional $103,000 for analysts. Much of that difference can be attributed to former defensive coordinator Tony Gibson’s $901,000 annual salary.
