West Virginia travels to face No. 22 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa — Carrying a four-game win streak, the West Virginia women’s basketball team heads to Ames, Iowa for a rematch against No. 22 Iowa State at 7 p.m. today.

The two meet for the second time this season. The Mountaineers claimed a 73-64 upset win over the Cyclones back in Januaryafter Lucky Rudd scored a career-high 22 points.

Today’s game marks the Mountaineers’ sixth game of the season against a top-25 opponent. The Cyclones are looking for their fourth-straight Big 12 win this season, and are coming off an 81-52 win at Kansas State.

The Mountaineers are coming off a 71-50 win over Kansas on Sunday. Redshirt junior Tynice Martin had 22 points in the win, marking her ninth 20-point effort of the season. Senior forward Naomi Davenport tallied 16 points, while junior guard Lucky Rudd netted 13 in the win. WVU shot just under 47 percent from the field and just over 74 percent at the free-throw line.

Martins’ efforts against Texas and Kansas earned her Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the second time this season on Monday. She was also named the College Sports Madness National Player of the Week. It marks the fifth time this season a Mountaineer has earned a weekly award from the league.

Iowa State enters Saturday’s tilt at 17-5 overall and 7-3 in league play. ISU has won three straight in Big 12 play, most recently taking an 81-52 win at Kansas State.

Bridget Carleton leads the Cyclones with 20.5 points per game and is the team’s leading rebounder at 8.2 boards per contest. Kristin Scott is averaging 13.2 points per game while shooting 63.2 percent from the field, while Ashley Joens has put up
11.9 points per game so far. Alexa Middleton boasts a team-best 108 assists for an average of 4.9 per game.

West Virginia controls the series with a record of 10-4 and has won the last three meetings.
