MORGANTOWN — Teams from middle schools all across the state competed Friday in the WVU Mountainlair as part of the National Finals of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s National Science Bowl.
Sixteen teams squared off in the fast-paced, quiz-style competition. There were a variety of questions from several different subjects, including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy and math.
Three schools from Monongalia County participated — Mountaineer Middle, Suncrest Middle and St. Francis de Sales Central Catholic School.
While Friday featured middle schoolers competing, today, students from West Virginia high schools will compete.
The goal of the competition is to encourage students to pursue careers in science and math.
The winning teams will receive all-expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl, which will be held April 25-29.
