MORGANTOWN — Neal Brown picked up his first commitment from a high school player when defensive back Rashean Lynn announced Friday.
Lynn, a 6-foot-5, 184-pound safety from Cocoa, Fla., was recruited as a receiver by several programs, but liked what the Mountaineers had to offer him on the defensive side. New WVU defensive coordinator Vic Koenning served as Lynn’s primary recruiter.
Lynn, a three-star prospect who was scheduled to take an official visit to Indiana this weekend, decided to forego the trip to Bloomington when he picked the Mountaineers. His commitment leaves five open spots in the 2019 class with signing day looming Wednesday.
Lynn is one of three safeties in this year’s recruiting class, joining three-star Osita Smith (Columbia, Md.) and four-star Tykee Smith (Philadelphia).
Lynn is one of 17 commits to this year’s signing class, plus three other West Virginia scholarship openings are filled by transfers who have enrolled. Those transfers are quarterback Austin Kendall (Oklahoma), linebacker VanDarius Cowan (Alabama) and receiver Isaiah Esdale (Eastern Arizona Community College).
