CHARLESTON – Here is a sampling of bills introduced Jan. 28 and 29. The governor’s Just Cut Taxes and Win constitutional amendment resolution and his teacher pay raise bill are among them. Monongalia-Preston-Marion-area lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.
SB 468, to eliminate the requirement that schools be closed on election days. Sen. Dave Sypolt, R-Preston, lead sponsor.
SB 473, the Taxation With Representation Act, to allow nonresidents of a municipality who work in that municipality and who pay user fees to vote in municipal elections. Sypolt, lead sponsor. Same as HB 2342.
SB 484, to prohibit civil rights violations based on gender identity, or sexual orientation. To be known as Angel’s Law. Sen. Bob Beach, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor. Similar bills also introduced: HB 2733, 2741, 2755.
SJR 11, the governor’s Just Cut Taxes and Win Amendment, to phase out the property tax on business inventory, machinery and equipment.
HB 2730, the governor’s bill to raise pay for State Police, teachers and school service workers.
HB 2747, to allow parents or the school to serve sweets during the holidays if the school receives parental or guardian consent; sometimes called in previous years the Cupcake Bill.
HB 2779, to provide that proceeds from oil and gas wells that are due to unknown or unlocatable are to be kept in a special fund, and if unclaimed within seven years to be transferred to the Oil and Gas Reclamation Fund; along with other measures.
