Doris Jane McGinnis Thorn, 83, of Tunnelton, Howesville Community, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Southwestern Veterans Center, in Pittsburgh. She was born September 7, 1935, in Newburg, daughter of the late Hugh Sheets and Ellen Renshaw Sheets Conneway and her husband Lloyd “Shorty” Conneway.
Doris graduated from Newburg High School, Class of 1953. She and her husband owned and operated The Hamburger Haven, in McCoole, Md. and also spent many years farming. She also worked in the deli at both Foodland in Kingwood and WalMart and retired from there as a greeter.
She loved going to yard sales, eating out, playing canasta, bingo and family time during the holidays. She was a member of the Christian Evangelical Church, Birdscreek and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by two daughters, Silver Haas and husband Damon, Washington, Pa., Shannon Strahin and husband Mike, Howesville; one son, Thomas Eddie Smith, Morgantown; 12 grandchildren, Tiffany Hall and husband James, Tyler Treft and companion Mariah, Morgan Barnett and husband Jhamel, Robin Strahin and finance Damien, Michael Strahin and wife Karen, C.J. Strahin and wife Brittany, Elizabeth Strahin, Saralynn Farber Haas, Maddie Obrad, Jenna Obrad, Cody Obrad, and Shayla Obrad; nine great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Ben, Adalay, Lilyan, Michael, Aleli, Preston, Liaylah, and Arya.
In addition to her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald “Bud” McGinnis and second husband Phillip Thorn.
Family and friends will be received at the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown St., Newburg, from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, until time of service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Delbert Lyons officiating.
The family request you wear red in honor of Doris’s favorite color. Burial will be at Shays Chapel Cemetery.
