West Virginia Botanic Garden seeks volunteers for next season

MORGANTOWN — Even though it’s chilly outside and folks have had to clean the snow off their cars several times recently, the staff at the West Virginia Botanic Garden is already thinking about the next season.
And help is needed.
Volunteers are needed for the following groups:

  • The weekly garden crew plants, weeds, waters and mulches the existing gardens.
  • The weekday warriors create new trails and maintain existing trails.
  • The garden greeters welcome visitors and tell them about the gardens and trails.

Others participate on one of several committees that write grants, host fundraising dinners and special events, develop public relations, and plan for the future growth of the garden.

If you are interested in helping, you can make a donation or fill out a volunteer application on the website at wvbg.org.
There will be a meeting at 2 p.m. March 2 in the education and event center to welcome back veteran volunteers for this season. New volunteers are also invited to the meeting.
Email volunteers@wvbg.org for more information and to notify the volunteer coordinator about your attendance.
Education Director Erin Smaldone will soon be booking presenters and scheduling events at the garden.
The schedule will be available at wvbg.org when it is complete. The kiosk in the garden’s lower parking lot also shows the list of events.

Registration is available for the variety of activities on the website. Many of those activities are free to members. Find out more about memberships on the site.
