KINGWOOD — Jan. 26 is the final day for candidates to file to run for office in five town elections in Preston County.
Albright, Brandonville, Kingwood, Masontown and Terra Alta have been accepting candidate filings for mayor, recorder and council since Jan. 14. Midnight is the deadline to file in those towns. Filings postmarked by midnight are also acceptable.
In Kingwood, as of early Friday afternoon, incumbent Mayor Jean-Manuel Guillot; incumbent Recorder Bill Robertson; and incumbent Council Members Josh Fields, Mike Lipscomb and Michelle Whetsell had filed.
Karen Kurilko also filed to run for a council seat.
Kingwood City Hall will be open 8 a.m.-noon Jan. 26 to take filings.
In addition to council, Kingwood voters will decide whether to change the length of council terms to three years, instead of two, so that the city will be on track to run its elections at the same time as the county.
If the measure passes, terms will revert back to two years, after this term. Kingwood has said it will save thousands of dollars by holding elections the same year as the county.
No one had filed yet Friday morning in Terra Alta. Town hall will be open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 26 to take filings.
At Masontown, Mayor Roxie Turner, Recorder Art Centofanti and Council Members Elizabeth DeBardi, Mike Mayfield Jr., Tom Shillingburg and Mike Turner, all incumbents, had filed Friday.
Albright Town Hall is closed on Fridays, so no information was available on candidate filing there so far. Information was not available on Brandonville’s candidates in time for this report.
City elections will take place in May.
