Mildred Jean Guinn Rittenhouse Kellam, 93, of Bridgeport, passed away into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, in Bridgeport.
She was born April 10, 1925, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Albert Carl Guinn and Maude Dakota Smith Guinn.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Stanley W. Rittenhouse, who passed away in 1985 and H. Phil Kellam, who passed away in 2000.
She is survived by two sons, Stanley Allen Rittenhouse and his wife, Norma, of Fairmont, and Timothy Mark Rittenhouse and his wife, Freda, of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Scott A. Rittenhouse and his wife, Melissa, of Nashville, Ind., Brian A. Rittenhouse and his wife, Mary, of Simpsonville, S.C., Rachel L. Stoneking and her husband, Jason, of New Martinsville, Ford W. Green and his wife, Sara, of Morgantown, and Holly L. Dysart and her husband, Chris, of White, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Jordan Dysart, of White, Nora Rittenhouse, of Nashville, Arah Stone-king, of New Martinsville, Ansel Rittenhouse, of Nashville, Eliza Stoneking, of New Martinsville, and Landon Green, of Morgantown; brother, Kenneth W. Guinn, of Bridgeport; and a dear cousin, Glenda Harenberg, of Springfield, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Rittenhouse Green; son-in-law, Frank Green; and a sister, Mary F. Hornor.
She was a Christian mother, wife and friend to everyone. Upon graduating from Washington Irving High School in 1943, she became an employee of the First National Bank of Salem. Upon meeting Stanley W. Rittenhouse at the bank, they were married Aug. 8, 1947. Due to her husband’s many transfers with the Hope Gas Co., they lived several places in West Virginia. In Morgantown, she was a volunteer at WVU Hospital and worked part-time for Suncrest Cultural Center. She also lived in Charleston and Parkersburg.
In each city, she was very active in her church, serving in many capacities, especially in music. Her last church affiliation was Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport. While in Bridgeport, she was a volunteer at UHC and a member of FLG Circle at Simpson Creek. She was a stay at home mom, and she loved her children dearly and will be sadly missed by her family and friends
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport, from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, in Clarksburg.
