MORGANTOWN — How much does Neal Brown trust Chad Scott? Enough to get Scott on board at West Virginia without establishing his specific role.
The Mountaineers announced Scott’s hire on Saturday, but have yet to say which position he will coach. According to the official school release, Brown will determine specific staff assignments “at a later time.”
“Chad and I have been together at a number of stops, and he will be a great fit on our coaching staff,” Brown said in a school release. “He has experience in the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Sun Belt along with being a tireless recruiter. He has been a part of some prolific offenses during his tenure and his ability as a teacher and coach will be an outstanding addition to our staff. Chad will do a great job for us.”
Scott was the tight ends coach at North Carolina from 2016-18, but was hired as Louisville’s running backs coach earlier this month before jumping to the Mountaineers.
“I’m honored to be a part of Neal Brown’s staff and look forward to assisting in continuing to build the rich tradition at West Virginia,” Scott said in a school release. “I can’t wait to meet the players and will work hard in helping to develop these young men on and off the field. My family and I are excited to come to Morgantown and be a part of the Mountaineer Football family and Mountaineer Nation.”
Scott first worked with Brown at Troy from 2007-09, when Brown was the Trojans offensive coordinator. He followed Brown to Texas Tech (2010-12) and Kentucky (2013-15), where he served as running backs coach.
A native of Plant City, Fla., Scott began his collegiate playing career at Kentucky, where he was one of Brown’s teammates, before transferring to North Carolina, where he lettered in 2004 and 2005.
