MORGANTOWN — Neal Brown’s contract at West Virginia includes a $150,000 incentive for winning the Big 12 title and $100,000 for appearing in the conference championship game.
The six-year deal worth more than $19 million was made available by the university Thursday through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Brown’s contract runs through Dec. 31, 2024. Should he be fired without cause before Dec. 31, 2020, the university would owe him 100 percent of his remaining salary. After the 2020 season, the school’s buyout obligation drops to 75 percent.
Should Brown leave for another job before Dec. 31, 2020, he would owe West Virginia $4 million. That personal buyout dips to $3.5 million the following year and $2.5 million after the 2022 season.
Other incentives for Brown include:
— $300,000 for a national championship
— $250,000 for a national championship game appearance
— $200,000 for a national semifinal win
— $100,000 for winning national coach of the year (from AP, Bear Bryant, Eddie Robinson or Bobby Dodd)
— $50,000 for winning Big 12 coach of the year
