Joseph ‘Joe’ Skavinsky, 81, of New Hill Community, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on, Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Joe was born September 22, 1937, in North Bethlehem Township, Pa., son to Andrew and Dorothy Wolfe Skavinsky.
Joe worked at Tony’s Restaurant for many years and later retired from Greer as a custodian. He was also honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves in 1972. Joe enjoyed Bingo every week at the Point Marion Fire Hall.
Joe is survived by his one brother, Donald Skavinsky, Sr. and wife Brenda; one sister, Carolyn McCord, all of New Hill; niece and caretaker, Dorothea ‘D.D.’ Savage; many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Jane Skavinsky, of Morgantown, Sylvia Skavinsky, Ransomville, NY and one brother-in-law, Frank Field, of Morgantown.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Dorothy; two brothers, Andrew ‘Andy’ Skavinsky and Robert ‘Bob’ Skavinsky; three sisters, Diana Skavinsky, Dorothy Snyder and Blanche Field also his faithful canine companion, Dutch.
Family will receive friends at Fred Jenkins Fuenral Home from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, and from 1 p.m. on Friday until time of services at 2 p.m. with Jason Blosser officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916.
