MORGANTOWN — Beginning the morning of Jan. 8, Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) crews will close a portion of Wilson Avenue between White Avenue and Overdale Street. Work may continue for up to three weeks. During this time, MUB crews will install roughly 700 feet of 6-inch PVC water line to replace an existing cast iron line that runs from Green Street to Overdale Street. Work is expected between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. The road will be reopened during non-work hours and weekends.
This work is being done in preparation for the City of Morgantown paving project. Because the original line, installed prior to 1927 (with valves and connectors replaced in the 1960s), has experienced multiple leaks during the past few years, it was determined appropriate to replace the line ahead of paving. The total cost of replacing the line is estimated at $66,400.
Water outages will be necessary when crews tie-in service lines to the new water line. Such interruptions will be short in duration, and customers impacted will be notified in advance.
