Alton Myers

In the cold early morning hours of January 4, 2019, Alton Gay Myers, Sr., walked in to the warm embrace of Jesus, with his children by his side.

He was born August 15, 1940, the son of the late Arlie Wilson Myers and Henrietta Hershman Myers. He was one of nine children, three sisters and five brothers, Beaulah Shahan, Beryl Shahan, Kenneth Myers, Beatrice Long, Karl Myers, Paul Myers, Junior Myers and Walter Myers.

He was a graduate from Tucker County High School with the class of 1959. He was a long time employee of Sterling Faucet until  it closed in 1995. Alton was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He  enjoyed bee keeping, farming, gardening, ramp hunting and dinners. He was a devoted family man, who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his close friend, Sarah; his four children, Alton G Myers, Jr., and friend Rhonda, Mark and wife Kelly Myers, Arlie and wife Tonya Myers, Cheryl and husband William Brock and son by choice, Roger and wife Melissa Bolyard; his grandchildren, Michelle Myers, Brittany Myers, Joshua Myers, Jessica Myers, Nicholas Myers, Whitney Myers, Allison Conner, Kasey Strahin, Maura Strahin, Jillian Brock, Kaitlynd Bolyard, (his favorite),  Brooklyn Bolyard and Addison Bolyard; his great-grandchildren, Savannah Taylor, Colton Taylor, Josiah Conner and Olivia Myers; and his cousin, Ralph Scumaci, Jr.

He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Myers; his nephews, Earl Shahan, Jeremiah Myers, Wally Myers, Adam Myers and a niece, Angela Shahan.

Family and friends will be received at the Burke Funeral Home, in Rowlesburg, from 2 – 8 p.m.  on Sunday, Jan. 6.  Mr. Myers will lie in repose at the Etam United Methodist Church from  noon on Monday, Jan. 7, until 1 p.m. the funeral hour with Chaplin David Spence officiating. Interment will following in the Etam Cemetery.
