Juanita “Nita” Lynne Swiger Hibbs, 63, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. She was born in Fairmont, December 7, 1955, daughter of the late Claude Swiger, Jr. and Nettie Jean Tennant Swiger, formerly of Fairview.
Nita was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. A 1974 graduate of Fairview High School, where she was a member of the band, as well as Drum Majorette. Juanita received her Nursing and Bachelor’s degrees from Fairmont State College. She Loved traveling, especially with her husband, Brad, on their motorcycle, enjoyed Mountaineer football and basketball and Penguins Hockey. She loved decorating and gardening in and around her home but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending whatever activities they were involved in.
Nita spent her working life as a Pediatric Nurse at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for nearly 40 years. She received many awards for her work and was considered by many to have been the best nurse ever at WVU Children’s Hospital. She will be remembered by many for her wonderful, caring work with sick children in need. She impacted many lives and will be truly missed by her husband, family, and friends.
Nita is survived by her husband, Brad Hibbs; daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Jason Statler, of Fairview; grandchildren, Kenly and Kooper Statler, of Fairview; brothers, Joe (Rose) Swiger, of Fairmont, Jim (Elva) Swiger, of Fairview, and John (Julie) Swiger, of Clarksburg; sister, Alice Milliron, of Fairmont; aunt, Mary Smith, of Poquosin, Va.; uncle and aunt, Jim and Betty Tennant, of Sunset Beach, N.C.; mother-in-law, Marylea Hibbs, of Fairview; brother-in-law, Gary Williams, of Blacksville; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Gretchen Hibbs, of White Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenny Fox; sister, Mary Swiger Williams; father-in-law, Kenneth Hibbs; step son, Bart Hibbs; and brother-in-law, Randy Milliron.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home,Curry Chapel, 100 Grant Street, in Fairview, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, and from 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the family plot of a private cemetery.
