MORGANTOWN — Starting Jan. 2, Fayette Street will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from High Street to Spruce Street in order to address plumbing issues at Morgantown City Hall.
According to a press release issued by the city, the Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) and Lytle Construction will handle the work, which is expected to conclude by Jan. 11, weather permitting.
MUB will begin excavating and making connections to the existing manhole in Fayette Street. Lytle Construction will then dig a new manhole and install backflow prevention for city hall.
The press release said that the project is needed to address sanitary line issues that have occurred due to failures in terra cotta plumbing lines that were par of the building’s original construction, but no longer meets code or the existing needs of the building.
The project was bid to Lytle Construction for $279,700 and will be paid for out of the city’s capital improvement expenditures.
