Mildred “Mick” Marie Sturm Cowell, 91, of Blacksville, died Monday, December 24, 2018, in Morgantown.
She was born November 8, 1927, at Miracle Run, a daughter of the late William Sturm and Hazel Baker Sturm.
Mick was a 1946 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School. She was a member of the Bula Baptist Church and served as the assistant secretary for Sunday school for many years.
Mildred started her working career at Westinghouse, in Fairmont, and worked there for three years. She and her late husband operated Cowell’s Bula Garage for 37 years.
Surviving are her son-in-law, Timothy S. Clovis, of Crossroads; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy Clovis and his wife Wendy, of Wana, Chelsa Kolb and her husband Ben, of Mannington, Hillary Clovis and her wife Kristin Kuchera, of Morgantown, and Joshua Clovis and his wife Chasity, of Wana; 10 great-grandchildren, Adia Kolb, Gable Kolb, Khya Kolb, Cooper Clovis, Bo Clovis, Burke Clovis, Briggs Clovis, Hudsyn Clovis, Canyon Clovis, and Harmony Clovis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of the Sturm family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Bo” Cowell; one daughter, Patricia Cowell Clovis; three sisters, Catherine Steele, Irene Phillips, and Betty Tennant; and three brothers, William Jr Sturm, Dale Sturm and Bobby Sturm.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Mark Johnson and the staff of Morgantown Hospice for their love and care given to Mildred during her illness.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, in Blacksville, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Drew Reveal officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery, at Pentress.
