MORGANTOWN — All Morgantown needed Friday was a small adjustment.
Senior Sydni Clawges was nursing a tweaked ankle, and spending a good amount of time on the perimeter. As the Mohigans hosted Martinsburg for the opening game of the girls’ American Homes Holiday Classic Tournament, coach Jason White decided to move Clawges back to the post, rotating sophomore forward Kaitlyn Ammons to the wing.
Clawges used the opportunity to bully the Martinsburg post, scoring 18 points as she led Morgantown to a 59-55 win. Ammons contributed 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
“We made a little adjustment,” White said. “We’ve been playing her at the guard, but tonight we put Ammons out and put Sydni down around the rim and let her go to work.
“We got the ball inside to Clawges and they couldn’t double because Ammons was inside. I thought the kids adjusted to it well, and she had a lot of success down around the rim.”
