After a long, full, loving life, Virginia T. Berolatti Wytko, 96, of Elkins, and formerly Morgantown, peacefully passed away into the welcoming arms of her Heavenly Father, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, after an extended illness at Davis Medical Center, in Elkins, surrounded by family.
Born Aug. 23, 1922, in Morgantown, she was the daughter of Pete and Teresa Marco Berolatti, one of six siblings. She was a 1940 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked in her father’s store on Beechurst Avenue, in Morgantown, before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Bernard Paul Wytko Sr.
They wed July 15, 1945, at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, in Morgantown, after patiently and longingly waiting for him to return from service in World War II. Bernard, a sergeant in the U.S. Army, was a prisoner of war and a decorated veteran. They purchased and operated the Beechurst Avenue Market until their retirement in the mid-1980s, when they moved to Parkersburg, to be near family.
Bernard preceded her in death on June 10, 2002, and was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, where Virginia will be reunited with her beloved. The final date of her interment at Arlington has yet to be scheduled.
In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Catherine Berolatti D Abate, Anna Berolatti Wytko, Felicitia Berolatti, Dominic Berolatti and Pete Berolatti.
She was a fine and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by the couple’s two children and their spouses, Bernard P. Wytko and his wife, Mary, and Linda Wytko Goodwin and her husband John; three grandchildren, Heather Goodwin Henline and her husband, Lance, Sarah Wytko Witchell and her husband, David, and Angelea Goodwin and her fiancé, Matthew J. Maynard; and four great-grandchildren, Johnny, Bobby and Joshua Henline and Olivia Witchell.
Virginia’s greatest legacy is a legacy of love. A celebration of life Mass is set at Saint Brendan Catholic Church, in Elkins, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, officiated by the Rev. James E. O’Connor. All family and friends are welcome.
Remembrances may be sent to the church, 181 St. Brendan Way, Elkins. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Randolph Funeral Home, in Valley Bend, with final arrangements through Arlington National Cemetery.
