Donald V. “Don” Van Scoy, 62, of White Hall, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on April 3, 1956, a son of the late Leonard and Rose Marie (Kyle) Van Scoy.
Don is survived by two children, Derek Van Scoy, of Parkersburg and Casey Van Scoy, of Parkersburg; three step-children, Amber Benincosa and husband Jonathan, of N.C., Josh Watson, of Fairmont, who was a wonderful caregiver during his illness, and T.J. Watson, of Charleston; three siblings, his twin brother, Ronald J. Van Scoy and wife Margaret, of Morgantown, sister, Jean Van Scoy Chrzaszcz and husband John, of Morgantown, and brother, Michael Van Scoy and wife Jodi, of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Psyron LeMay, Jackson LeMay, Asher Benincosa, Nadia Benincosa, Silas Watson, and Navaeh Brinkley; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great–nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Lynn Van Scoy in 2015.
Don was a graduate of University High School and then received his certification as a corrections security officer. He began his career working at Moundsville Penitentiary, Salem Correctional Center, and then served many years as head of security at Niosh, in Morgantown. Don was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golfing, and loved sports, especially WVU and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was very family oriented, had an outgoing personality, and loved being around people.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main Street, Clarksburg, from noon on Friday, Dec. 21, until 2 p.m. Committal services will then follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, at 2:30 p.m. followed by entombment.
