Chester Earl Metheny, 90, of Bruceton Mills (Glade Farms community), died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at his home.
The son of the late Oren King and Bernice Beatty Metheny, he was born February 3, 1928, in Terra Alta.
Earl was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp.
He is survived by his companion, Ethel Wolfe; a son, Michael Metheny and his friend, Margie Clark, of Bruceton Mills and a daughter, Roberta (Bobbie) Wolfe and her husband, Duncan, of Bruceton Mills; four grandsons, Lynn E. Savage and his wife Stacey, in Korea, Kevin L. Savage and his wife, Meghan, of N.J., Gregory Scott Savage, of Oakland, Md. and Tobby Metheny and his wife Kim, of Bruceton Mills; a grandaughter, Heather Martin and her husband, Jeremy, of Bruceton Mills; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Zelmodine Casteel, of Terra Alta and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Kost Metheny; a son, Jeffrey Allan Metheny; a daughter, Bernice L. Savage; a step-mother, Elva Metheny; a sister, Ethel Frantz; two brothers, Charles Vernon and Junior G. Metheny; and a brother-in-law, Nelson Casteel.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, and from noon Sunday, Dec. 9, until the 1 p.m. service with Pastor Donnie Savage officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard and the WVANG Military Honors, Camp Dawson. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Terra Alta.
