KINGWOOD — Preston County launches the Christmas season with two parades and a variety of holiday sales Saturday.
At noon Saturday, the Main Street Kingwood Christmas parade will get under way. With more than 40 units, it will include the jolly old elf as well.
After the parade, visit with Santa at Kingwood Elementary. Children 12 and under will receive a free gift.
Got a sweet tooth? The Great Cookie Challenge will be 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the Preston Community Arts Center, on Price Street. Bakers can sign up by calling 304-329-6336. For $2 you can sample cookies and vote for the people’s choice.
Main Street will light the city Christmas tree at McGrew House at 3 p.m.
At the Craig Civic Center on Tunnelton Street, in Kingwood, a holiday bazaar will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. About 50 vendors have signed up for the annual shopping event.
That’s not your only shopping option, though. The Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will hold its holiday shopping event 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Kingwood Community Building, on Brown Avenue, Saturday.
The Presbyterian Ladies Association will also have a sale 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday in the Presbyterian Church basement, on High Street, in Kingwood.
In northern Preston County, Saturday is the Christmas Homecoming Celebration in Bruceton Mills. It will take place at the school with vendors, eye screenings, food, and Santa and Mrs. Claus from 3 to 5:15 p.m. and following the parade.
The parade will start at 6 p.m. at the Bruceton baseball field and go the elementary School. The Christmas tree lighting will follow the parade, and then the festivities at the school will continue.
The Bruceton Community Lions Club and Clear Mountain Bank are the major sponsors of the Bruceton event.
