MORGANTOWN — Morgantown High’s Sammie Brown was named the girls’ player of the year by the West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Brown, who helped the Mohigans (16-5) win the Region I, Section II championship, was dominant as a midfielder during her junior season, tallying 15 goals and 14 assists.
“Sammie is a small player who is intuitive, anticipates well and protects the ball like a master,” MHS assistant coach Kim Mellie said. “She is a selfless leader and a technical genius.”
Brown was also named a first team all-state midfielder by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
