Robert “Bob” W. Skavinsky, 77, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday evening, November 14, 2018, in the Hospice Unit at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness with family providing a constant vigil at his bedside during his final hours.
Bob was born in North Bethlehem Township, Pa. on March 15, 1941, the fifth of eight children born to the late Andrew Skavinsky, Sr., and the late Dorothy (Wolfe) Skavinsky.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary “Jane” Skavinsky; brothers, Joseph Skavinsky and Donald (Brenda) Skavinsky, Sr.; sister, Carolyn McCord; daughters Roberta (Tommy) Williams and Jennifer (Adam) Romesburg; step-son, Jeffrey Holepit; grandsons, Tommy D. Williams, Hank (Jen) Williams, Shawn (Amber) Williams and Benjamin Romesburg; granddaughters, Jillian Scotchel-Romesburg and Reagan Scotchel-Romesburg; great-grandchildren, Kloe, Candice, Kobe, and Landon Williams; sister-in-law Betty (Jim) Corsaro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Andrew Skavinsky, Jr., Dorothy Snyder, Blanche Field and Diana Skavinsky; and a brother-in-law, Richard H. McCord, Sr.
Bob retired from St. Francis Central Catholic School having worked at both the old and new locations. He loved the daily interaction with the students, faculty, parents and administration. “Stranger” was never in his vocabulary, only friends he had not yet met.
An avid golfer, until his health began to fail, he enjoyed watching professional, collegiate and high school sports. He attended as many activities of the children as possible. Bob loved to take road trips to take in the scenery, especially during his favorite time, the fall. He rarely passed up an opportunity to sing along to, attempt to dance to, or just simply listen to a good polka.
Friends may join the family to honor Bob’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care from 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the evening visitation.
