U.S. Census Bureau seeks temporary workers in Preston

KINGWOOD – The United States Census Bureau is looking for temporary workers in Preston County, according to County Administrator Kathy Mace.  Mace said the census is important because the population is considered when applying for grants and other funding. She said information about the jobs is posted on the Preston County Commission website at http://www.prestoncountywv.gov/ under News and Alerts.

In other business, commissioners voted to approve Sheriff Daniel Loughrie’s request to hire Nicholas P. Bolyard as a utility officer.  Bolyard’s starting date is Nov. 7, and his rate of pay will be $10.48 per hour for a three month probationary period, according to Loughrie.

Commissioners voted to lease a 2007 Chevrolet Trail Blazer to the town of Rowlesburg.  The vehicle will be used by their part time police officer.  According to Mace the vehicle was returned to the county by the town of Albright after they lost their officer.  She said the counties insurance company approved the lease of the vehicle.  Mace said the Town of Rowlesburg will be responsible for the liability on the vehicle and any repairs. She said the Trail Blazer will be returned to the county when it is no longer needed.

Both the County Clerk’s office and the County Commission Meeting Room will open to the public to observe election procedures.  Commission President Craig Jennings said Canvas will also be open for the public and will be held on Nov. 13in the County Commission Meeting Room.  A random precinct will be hand counted at the County Commission Meeting which will begin at 9:30am prior to the canvas. Jennings will ring the old courthouse bell at 8am election day prior to opening the ballot box which contains the absentee ballots.
