FAIRMONT — A man was shot and killed in Fairmont Monday night.
Fairmont Police responded to a shots fired call at about 9:15 p.m. near Columbia Street and were told people on foot and in two silver vehicles may have been involved, according to a press release from the Fairmont Police Department.
After 26 minutes of canvassing the area and speaking with witnesses, officers were told by dispatchers that there was a man in a vehicle on Front Street. The man did not appear to be breathing.
Officers went to the vehicle and found 29-year-old Kevin Blanks dead of gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.
The investigation revealed four potential crime scenes with various shootings and robberies. The vehicle Blanks was killed in was shot multiple times and is classified as a mobile crime scene, according to police.
Investigators are reviewing video in the area, witness statements and are gathering more evidence. Police are trying to account for about 30 minutes and are seeking the public’s help, the release states.
Police know there is another silver or grey four-door sedan with a loud exhaust that was involved. They are also seeking two white males that are reportedly linked to the crime, according to the release.
One male was described as 5-feet 10-inches tall wearing jeans and a dark shirt and hoodie, the other is reported to have been wearing a white shirt.
There might have been a chase in the area of Columbia Street, Morgantown Avenue, Homewood Avenue and Palatine Avenue involving the two silver or gray vehicles.
The release calls the circumstances that led to Blanks being shot in the area of the 300 block of Merchant Street, to being found dead on Front Street about 30 minutes later, “suspicious.”
