MORGANTOWN — The latest in a long series between the Clay-Battelle and Madonna football teams resumes in Weirton, at 7 p.m. today.
The series between the Cee-Bees and Blue Dons has solidified itself as back and forth, often with playoff implications for at least one of the teams.
This season has been one of ups-and-downs for C-B, a roller coaster ride that proves just how different one week can be different from the next.
Madonna has had a similarly rough go on the gridiron this fall, a usual playoff contender entering Week 11 at 3-6.
The playoff implications are still there for the Cee-Bees, although their hopes can be called a long shot at best. They have to win to stay eligible, but a lot of other things must go right, too.
“We’re both good programs. Both teams want to end up with a win going into the off-season,” C-B head coach Ryan Wilson said. ”This series features good, solid football games. Some years they have the edge, some of the years we have the edge.”
The Cee-Bees last saw a win against the Blue Dons in 2015, winning 47-20. The year prior, C-B ended their season 9-1 with a 21-0 shutout against Madonna that secured home-field advantage through the state playoff semifinals for C-B.
