MORGANTOWN — Monongalia County Chief Tax Deputy Kelly Palmer said 1,593 properties are headed to the upcoming tax lien sale, though that number could still change.
The sale will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 5 in the county commission meeting chamber.
Palmer asked county commission to suspend nearly 400 properties from the list Wednesday, citing a number of reasons.
She explained properties involved in a bankruptcy, previously sold to the state, condemned or having a deed in question cannot be sold.
The bulk of the exclusions, 293, involve mineral rights.
“All mineral rights, under state code, are not allowed to be sold. In many counties, those are actually keyed in as personal property, and so the state tax department is working with the auditor’s office and the assessors to get that straightened out,” Palmer said.
The sale will include properties with delinquent real estate taxes from the 2017 tax year. The deadline to pay is Nov. 4.
