Mr. Robert L. Atkins, formerly of Briercliff Road, Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at The Crossings at Morgantown.
He was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Weston, the son of the late Robert B. and Genevive Jarvis Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Wise Atkins; a son, Stacy B. Atkins; and a daughter, Erin C. Atkins.
He is survived by a daughter, Cydney Romito and her husband, Jim, of Morgantown; a grandson, Nicholas C. Romito and his fiancé, Ariana Pinn, of Morgantown; and the family brown and black dachshund named, Elle.
Bob retired with 39 years of service from the Property Accounting Department of Consolidated Natural Gas. He and his wife volunteered many hours and provided smiles to patients at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
Next to his family, Bridgeport High School athletics were close to his heart. For 25 years, he faithfully “kept the book” for the varsity boys basketball team. Bob attended BHS football, baseball and basketball events. Up until his passing, he would listen to the radio or receive phone updates from his buddies. In his later years, he could be found sharing stories with those same buddies at Tudor’s Restaurant and at Diamond Street Car Wash.
He was a member of Bridgeport United Method-ist Church and was a 32nd degree mason of Weston Lodge 10 A.F.&A.M.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in the father’s memory to Bridgeport High School Alumni and Friends, P.O. Box 201, Bridgeport, WV 26330, to be used for student scholarships.
Friends will be received at Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, from 2-6 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, from 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, until the 11 a.m. Service of Remembrance with the Rev. Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding. The interment will be held at a later date.
The Atkins family has entrusted the care and arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home.
