MORGANTOWN — WVU’s 71st Mountaineer Week continued today with several events, including a Civil War encampment on the Mountainlair Plaza, a corn roast and apple butter for sale in front of the Mountainlair, the craft and quilt show and a train display by the Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society.
Mountaineer Week will be held on WVU’s campus through Oct. 28 and celebrates Appalachian heritage.
Still to come are today’s pepperoni roll contest from 1-3 p.m. in the Mountainlair, the PRT cram at 4 p.m. Monday outside the Mountainlair and the beard-growing finals at noon Wednesday, among other events.
WVU’s Most Loyals were also recently chosen for Mountaineer Week.
The 2018 honorees are William and Loulie Canady, Most Loyal West Virginians; William Cawthorne, Most Loyal Alumni Mountaineer; Powsiri “Klink” Klinkhachorn, Most Loyal Faculty/Professional Staff; Avery “Tony” Richardson, Most Loyal Staff; and Bob McWhorter, Most Loyal Spirit Award. The group will be honored during the halftime ceremonies of Thursday’s WVU-Baylor football game.
The award recipients are selected by a joint committee representing the WVU Foundation, WVU Alumni Association, WVU Staff Council, WVU Faculty Senate and the Mountaineer Week organizing committee.
