More than 70 employers represented at Operation Welcome Home job fair

MORGANTOWN — Thorough, helpful, hard working.
KeyLogic Talent Acquisition Specialist Jeannine Ogden said those are among the traits the government contractor looks for in potential employees.
That’s why Ogden and KeyLogic were among the 70 or so employers on hand Thursday at the J.W. Ruby Community Center in Mylan Park for Operation Welcome Home’s Veterans & Dependents Job Fair.
“I think it’s the work ethic. Every job, in my opinion, has its highs and lows as far as what you have to do. Veterans, to me, are willing to do their job,” Ogden said. “Our employees are generally very helpful and veterans seem to fit right in with that.”
Operation Welcome Home CEO Brett Simpson said Thursday marked the second year for the fair. He explained that along with dozens of employers, a handful of service providers like Veterans Affairs were also represented.
He also noted that the participating employers cover a wide variety of career paths, but they all show up at the fair with one thing in common.
“Each employer that shows up has jobs ready and available for veterans,” Simpson said. “They’re not here unless they have the ability to offer someone a job.”
The fair gives veterans an opportunity to make an impression on prospective employers face-to-face as opposed to being another resume in someone’s inbox, Simpson explained.
As the name suggests, the services offered extend beyond just veterans.
“We include spouses and family members who a dependents as well because often the veterans themselves aren’t able to work. It might be the spouse or another family member who is the major financial support for the family, so we want to make sure they have the opportunity to find a great job,” Simpson said.
Operation Welcome Home is a non-profit job placement organization located at 452 Mylan Park Lane, in  Mylan Park.
