Campbell won’t seek reelection as AFT-WV president

CHARLESTON —  American Federation of Teachers-West Virginia President Christine Campbell has informed her organization’s members that she will not seek another term in the position.

Campbell did so earlier this week. She confirmed her decision to MetroNews “Talkline” Host Hoppy Kercheval Wednesday morning.

Campbell said she decided not to seek re-election for “various reasons, but mostly I want to work on this teacher shortage directly.” Various reports have said there are more than 700 qualified teacher vacancies in the Mountain State.

Campbell was elected AFT-West Virginia president in 2012 after teaching for 16 years in Pocahontas County. She was one of the key figures in the education workers strike in West Virginia earlier this year.
