West Virginia loses commitment from 4-star linebacker Lee Kpogba

MORGANTOWN, W.Va — Four-star linebacker Lee Kpogba, West Virginia’s top 2019 commitment for nearly a calendar year, decommitted Tuesday.

Rivals first reported Kpogba’s move to reopen his recruitment, and the 6-2, 2-10-pound outside linebacker from Parkland High in Winston Salem, N.C., subsequently addressed his decommitment in a tweet.

“This was not an easy thing to do,” he posted Tuesday.

The Mountaineers’ class immediately dropped six spots in the Rivals rankings, down to 40th.

With 4.6 speed in the 40-yard dash, he is the No. 6-rated outside linebacker in nationally and the 109th-best prospect overall, according to Rivals analysts. He also has played running back this season, helping his team to an 8-0 start.

Kpogba had committed to West Virginia on Oct. 28, 2017, but now reportedly is considering Tennessee, Florida State and Syracuse. He also holds offers from Virginia, Duke and Indiana, with potentially more to surface now that Kpogba is no longer locked in.
