Roberta Mae “Bertie” Whittington Saylors, age 86, currently of Morgantown and formerly of Owingsville, Ky. and Marion, Ind., passed away peacefully late Sunday evening, September 30, 2018, with her family at her side.
Bertie was born in January of 1932, in Owingsville, Ky., where she lived for several years. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ella Lillian (Thompson) Whittington.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Randy & Marcia Clark, with whom she made her home; nine grandchildren, Jason Clark, of Marion, Ind., Shanna Matthews and husband Brian, of Owingsville, Ky., Adriane Wilson and husband Kevin, of Ghent, Jacob Hogue and wife Lisa, of Hanover, Md., Allyson Hogue, of Fayetteville, N.C., Seth Clark and wife Shelby, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Zachary Taylor Foy, of Morgantown, Justin Clark and wife Mary, of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Hilary Clark, of Fairmont; a brother, Charles Whittington and his wife Beryl, of Owingsville, Ky., and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Clark; a son, Tommy “Tucker” Clark; a daughter, Ella Lorraine Clark Hogue; a brother, Clay Whittington, and her sister, Faye Wells.
Bertie loved Jesus, singing the old hymns and reading her King James Bible. Over the years, she had many cats that she loved dearly, and she leaves behind her feline companion, Calico. She attended Cornerstone C&MA Church since coming to Morgantown.
Friends may join the family to honor Bertie’s life & legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, in Morgantown, from 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Wayne Swisher. She will be laid to rest at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
