MORGANTOWN —A 25-year-old who allegedly exploited his grandparents for more than $300,000 is in jail.
Joseph. P. Rosak III, is charged with financial exploitation of the elderly by the West Virginia State Police.
According to a criminal complaint, Rosak physically and verbally threatened his grandpa, 77 and grandma, 73, whom he’s lived with for 20 years, into removing funds from their United Bank account and giving it to him.
Rosak threatened to kill his grandparents, burn down their home and physically abused them when they refused his demands for money, the complaint stated.
The grandparents said they fear for their lives and are prisoners in their own home, according to the complaint.
The penalty for financial exploitation of the elderly depends on the amount of money exploited. Rosak is charged with a felony and if convicted faces a fine of not more than $10,000 and two-20 years in prison.
Rosak is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
