MORGANTOWN — Downtown Morgantown was filled with regional and local artists showing off their creations while musicians filled the streets with their melodies.
Morgantown hosted the 2018 Arts Walk Friday night. Barbara Watkins, executive director of Main Street Morgantown, said 41 businesses and more than 100 artists participated this year.
“Compared to last year there is more energy,” Juliana Cardi said.
Taking part in the event for the second year, Cardi said she grew up with art – her grandmother is president of the Morgantown Art Association. She was taking photographs of people enjoying their evening.
“It is a great way to get the community involved in downtown,” Charles McEwuen, owner of Tanner’s Alley, said.
McEwuen said the Arts Walk provides a casual and laid back way for people to explore the various businesses and wide variety of restaurants downtown.
Tanner’s Alley hosted the art of Bobby Lane, who described his work as abstract expressionism.
A twenty year goal was fulfilled Friday night as Spencer & Kuehn Fine Jewelry Studio opened its doors for the first time.
Katherine Spencer, co-owner, said she’s been working towards opening a jewelry store since she was 16.
The store was announced at the spring event and Spencer said it seemed appropriate to hold the grand opening during Arts Walk.
Demi Evans, who makes soap, bath bombs and sugar scrub participated in Arts Walk for the first time.
“It’s wonderful,” Evans said. “It’s positive for local artists to get together and display their work.”
