UNIONTOWN, Pa. — University High swept both the boys’ and girls’ cross-country races Saturday at the Abe Everhart Invitational and also took the top spots individually in both meets.
The UHS girls’ took first place with 36 points, while the boys’ took first place with 66.
Preston High also competed in the meet. The PHS girls’ team took third with 107 points and the boys’ took sixth with 169.
The meet had 16 teams, featuring many from western Pennsylvania.
University’s Josh Edwards took first place in the boys’ meet in 17:20, while Zoe Shetty took first place in a time of 19:38.
Preston’s Allie Martin finished second in the girls’ race with a time of 19:41, and Trey Smith-Tatham took 20th in the boys’ race with a time of 18:26.
University’s Caroline Kirby was third for the girls with a time of 20:16, and Emma Troischt was eighth in a time of 20:56. Abby Murray took ninth in a time of 21:35.
For the UHS boys’, Aidan Palmero took eighth with a time of 18:00, and Nathaniel Edwards finished 15th with a time of 18:21.

Ari Christiansen scored on a corner kick with three minutes remaining in the game to give the third-ranked Hawks (11-1-1) the win over No. 2 Hedgesville (9-2-0).
Corinne Grabow made two saves while picking up the shutout.
University (11-1-1) will host Morgantown High at 6 p.m. Thursday, in the semifinals of the OVAC tournament.

KINGWOOD — Kendra Bolinger and Megan Noss each scored two goals to lead the Knights.
Kinley Manko recorded four saves to preserve the shutout and Macie Roy contributed three assists.
In a late game Thursday, Preston beat Fairmont Senior, 5-4, with Noss scoring three times to lead the way, while Bolinger had two goals and an assist.
Volleyball
Morgantown High swept a tri-match against Tyler Consolidated and Weir.
MHS beat Tyler Consolidated, 25-16 and 25-16. The Mohigans beat Weir, 25-10, 25-14.
Abby Paczek, Sage Halbritter and Madison McDonald all recorded eight kills combined in both matches.
MHS (12-3) will host Parkersburg South, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
