MORGANTOWN — Students at Morgantown High School were sent home before lunch Sept. 19 after fly larvae were found near the kitchen.
Deputy Superintendent Donna Talerico said the larvae were found in the outside garbage area where kitchen waste goes, as well as near the doorway to the kitchen Wednesday morning.
Talerico said while no larvae were found in the kitchen or in any food, school officials decided not to prepare lunch and to send students home at 11 a.m. since they wouldn’t be getting a meal.
“We didn’t want to chance it,” she said.
Pest management came to deal with the larvae and the cooks and custodians did a thorough cleaning of the area, Talerico said.
Talerico said the school is working with the company that provides the trash compacting dumpster to get new one.
