MORGANTOWN — A private island in the Greenbrier River will be sold at auction Sept. 20.
The Joe R. Pyle Complete Auction and Realty Service will host the auction of the 36-acre tract of land in Alderson. It will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Included with the property is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom rustic home with modern designs. It includes a loft-style seating area and a balcony, as well as a living room with cherry hardwood floors. It has 25 windows, five skylights, wrap-around decks, built-in furniture and a party patio. It also has touches of granite and marble. There is a well, septic system, RV hookup, a gravel road, and fertile top soil on the island.
Known as Johnson Island, the tract of land itself has a highway standard bridge and a new dock. The house is surrounded by a grove of trees.
The island is believed to have once been inhabited by Native Americans, the current owner said.
The home is situated in Alderson, which is close to the Seneca State Forest, Cass Railroad and Watoga State Park.
