Delma Gainer Iden, age 93, of Buckhannon, died Monday, September 10, 2018, at her home. She was born March 5, 1925, in Nestorville, a daughter of the late Chlorus Darl and Delta Holyfield Gainer.
On August 1, 1952, she married Marvin Nelson “Jake” Iden who preceded her in death on October 20, 2002.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Denzel Gainer.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Todd and husband Clarence “Sonny”, of Morgantown and Cathy Becker and husband Kip, of Sarasota, Fla.; and one grandson, Hugh Caperton and wife Kathryn Marty, of Morgantown.
Mrs. Iden attended Belington High School, class of 1940, and graduated from Alderson Broaddus College in 1944. She taught school in Barbour and Cabell County, and retired from the Upshur County school system after 32 years of service.
Mrs. Iden was a member of the West Virginia Education Association and the Upshur County Association of Retired School Educators. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon; a member of the United Methodist Women and Circle; the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a Worthy Grand Matron and received a 50-year membership pin; the Upshur County Historical Society; and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.
Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, September 14. Mrs. Iden will Lie-in-State at the First United Methodist Church, in Buckhannon, from 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, unntil the funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Meadows and Jamie O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
