Linda Wheeler

Linda L. Wheeler, of Morgantown,  passed away at home on Thursday, September 6, 2018, after a long illness.

She was born on November 28, 1942, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Werner) Hackett.
Linda graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy and the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing, both in Wheeling. She was a long time parishioner of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and St. John University Parish in Morgantown.

Linda was known for her generosity, kindness, and care to all those around her. And when it came to her family, especially her daughters, Linda was always there. She volunteered at their schools, as a leader for their Brownie troop, and was always present at their games, plays, and events. Her door was always open to many guests and friends and there was always enough delicious food for a party. Linda was a season ticket holder for WVU football and basketball for over 40 years and loved to cheer on the Mountaineers. In the last several years, she took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, Ben and Cate.

We are all beyond blessed to have known her and have been able to stand by her side throughout this journey as long as we did. She will be remembered fondly by many.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert W. Wheeler;  her children, Julie Wheeler (Denise Kircher), of Osprey, Fla., Kristin VanFossen (Adam), of Washington, DC, Beth Wheeler, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Christopher Wheeler, of Brunswick, Ga.; four grandchildren, Ben and Cate VanFossen and Madison and Julianne Wheeler; two brothers-in-law, Bruce Wheeler (Judy), of Austin, Texas and Brad Wheeler (Joanne Bosworth), of Wheeling; one aunt, Ruth Werner, of Wheeling; two nephews; one niece and many cousins.

Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home from 3 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 9.   A Vigil Service will follow  in the funeral home.    Visitation will continue at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334B University Ave., Morgantown, from 10 a.m. on Monday, September 10, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Gary Naegele as celebrant.
Honoring Linda’s wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mohammed Almubarak, Dr. Colleen Watkins, Dr. Kokab Darbandi, and the staff at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center for their kindness and care over the last six years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (www.wvucancer.org) or St. Mary Roman Catholic Church (www.stmarystarcity.com).
